This work was exhibited at Number-D’s first solo exhibition, “Intersection Without Borders.”

It features “Punny,” a rabbit character that symbolizes Number-D. Punny was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the name comes from the English word “pun,” meaning a play on words or joke.

The character was created from a wish for the future: that one day, when people tell the next generation about the time of the pandemic, they might say, “Was there really such an unbelievable world?” or “That’s far funnier than any silly joke.” It reflects the hope that the extraordinary reality of that period will eventually become a story people can laugh about, as if common sense itself had been turned upside down.

Printed on an acrylic panel, this work is characterized by its use of transparency as a key expressive element. It has a light, playful presence reminiscent of a large acrylic charm, while also maintaining the strong sense of scale and presence expected of an artwork. The balance between these two qualities is one of its greatest appeals.
