This work was exhibited at Number-D’s first solo exhibition, “Intersection Without Borders.”

It features “Punny,” a rabbit character that symbolizes Number-D. Punny was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the name comes from the English word “pun,” meaning a play on words or joke.

The character was created with a hope for the future: that one day, when telling the next generation about the time of the pandemic, they might say, “Was there really such an unbelievable world?” or “That sounds far more amusing than any silly joke.” It carries the wish that the extraordinary reality of that time will one day become a story people can laugh about, as if common sense itself had been turned upside down.

Printed on an acrylic panel, this work is characterized by an expression that makes full use of its transparency. It has a light, playful presence reminiscent of a large acrylic charm, while at the same time maintaining the solid sense of scale and presence expected of an artwork. The balance between these two qualities is one of its greatest appeals.
